Mountain-moving faith (1)

04 July 2022
‘If you have faith…’

Paul wrote, ‘Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see’ (Hebrews 11:1 NIV). To get through the challenges and move the mountains that stand in our way as we go through life, we need faith. We can’t rely on someone else’s faith to move our mountains.

We all have obstacles in our lives now, and we all have plenty more to come, but the good news is that God is willing to move them all. The problem is – our doubt; other people’s opinions; or neglecting God’s Word. Even though Jesus gave His disciples power to heal the sick, a demon-possessed boy left them helpless. ‘Why could we not cast the spirit out of him?’ they asked (see Matthew 17:19). Jesus said to them, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you’ (Matthew 17:20 NIV).

Notice what Jesus told them:

1) Be willing to start small. A tiny ‘mustard seed’ can grow into something much bigger. So start where you are and believe God for ordinary, everyday things, and when He honours your faith, thank Him and build on it.

2) Watch what you say. ‘You can say to this mountain, “Move”…and it will move.’ Your words release the life-giving force of God’s Word, so try to make sure that what you say lines up with what’s written in Scripture.

3) Believe that the impossible can happen when God’s involved. Some mountains seem immovable, but God knows the way. Use your faith, listen to God, follow His guidance, and watch what amazing things He can do.

What Now?

Thank God that He doesn’t require us to have massive amounts of faith before He’ll start helping us.
