Change is here to stay
When change happens in a familiar situation or environment, we often feel threatened. We get used to the way things are, and we want everything to remain in place and stay the same. Change is hard work. We don’t want the extra effort of adapting to it on top of everything else we have to do! Our desire is for stability, security, and predictability. We don’t want to face the fact that change happens, which can make us bad at preparing for instability, uncertainty, and surprises.
If we were willing to adjust our expectations and be more realistic, we wouldn’t be quite so shaken when change comes. It’s the only constant in life - ever heard the saying ’Change is here to stay’? The Bible says, ‘To everything there is a season.’ The truth is, God is our only secure anchor in life, so the best thing we can do is build a strong relationship with Him. Ultimately, He will never allow us to depend on anything but Him.
Here’s Elijah’s story: ‘The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning…and he drank from the brook. And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land’ (1 Kings 17:6-7 NKJV). Elijah might have panicked, but God didn’t. ‘The word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath…and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you”’ (v.8-9 NKJV). So if you like where you are now, enjoy it and make the most of your time there, but depend only on God!
What Now?
Pray that you’ll always stay anchored with God whenever change shakes your world.
