Forgiveness
The Psalmist wrote, ‘Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.’ The answer to this can be seen in the story of the man lowered into the room Jesus was teaching in. Jesus said to those in the room: ‘I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’ (Luke 5:23-24 NIV). He not only forgive the man’s sins, but also told him to get up and walk. Jesus has the authority to forgive our sins. All of our sins. Sometimes we stick with partial forgiveness. We don’t want to let God into the messy, dark places in our lives that we can’t forgive ourselves for, or the hurts we don’t want to forgive others for. But we need to allow God to forgive all our sins, that’s what He’s ready and willing to do. We need to let the past go, let our mistakes go and receive healing from Him. We need to allow ourselves to be free, and learn to forgive ourselves by receiving God’s total and complete forgiveness with an open heart. We can stop hurting ourselves, because Jesus was hurt for all our sins. We can stop beating ourselves up, because Jesus took all our beatings at the cross. We can stop punishing ourselves, because Jesus has received all the punishment due on our behalf. It’s time to stop asking ourselves if we’ve done enough to earn God’s forgiveness and acceptance. We don’t earn it or deserve it, we’ve got it because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. So let’s accept the gift of forgiveness and healing He’s offering us.
