God of restoration (2)
One day the Amalekites swept down on King David’s home town, burning it to the ground and taking its families captive. In this scene of devastation, David and his men ‘lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep’ (1 Samuel 30:4 NKJV). Now, God will let us grieve our losses because that’s healthy, but He won’t allow us to stay there too long. So God said to David, ‘Go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!’ (v.8). David and his people got back everything they had lost because our God is not only a God of restoration but a God of abundance. We might feel guilty because we’ve wasted opportunities, but the God who created those opportunities can give you new ones. ‘Though I sent my great army against you – those swarming locusts…I will pay you back for those years of trouble. Then you will have plenty to eat and be full. You will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has done miracles for you. My people will never again be shamed’ (Joel 2:25-26 NCV). When God blesses us, it won’t come in a tiny amount or from a rationed supply. He gives us ‘plenty’, and we’ll see that his love for us is limitless, and his power and grace are endless. He loves to give and to bless us. Ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed in Eden, God’s desire and plan has been to restore to us all that we have lost. So come to Him today and let the restoration begin.
What Now?
If you know you’ve disobeyed God at some point and haven’t confessed, make today the day you tell Him about it. He won’t reject you. He already knows everything about you and is ready to restore and bless you as He sees best.
