Work together (2)

09 January 2020
‘There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.’

Even though we’re all different, we can still work together in unity. Paul wrote: ‘I appeal to you…that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought’ (1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV). It’s unlikely that we’re going to agree with everyone all the time, but in unity we can focus on finding a compromise. We particularly need to be united in seeking God when it comes to working for His kingdom. We can’t just do whatever we feel like; we need to follow His plan. When we’re working with others in ministry, we need to pray together so that our thinking is aligned with God’s. Even though we have different gifts, it’s the same God who is working through all of us, and that brings us closer together. The Bible says: ‘There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.’ We might look different, speak differently, and have different gifts but we are all one in Jesus. ‘So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith…There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus’ (Galatians 3:26-28 NIVUK). We are united in our identity as children of God, saved and loved by Him. So however challenging we find it to work with other people, we need to remember to see them how God sees them. We need to stop focusing on our differences, and start seeking God’s will together so that we can achieve the things He’s called us to do.
