Just a touch

06 January 2020
‘She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.’

The Bible says: ‘A woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her’ (v.43 NIV). This woman had a problem that was draining the life out of her. It was a problem that no doctor could cure. So she did what we all need to do when we face problems – she took it to Jesus, touched Him by faith, and was made whole. She had to overcome 12 years of suffering, a sense of hopelessness and despair that she wasn’t being healed, and rejection from society. Some Bible translations tell us that she had spent all her money on trying to find a cure. She would have been desperate. But she hadn’t given up completely. She knew that Jesus could heal her, and that just one touch of His robe was all it would take. That’s really strong faith. She had to battle through the crowd that surrounded Jesus and stood in her way. But the moment she touched Jesus, she was made whole. We’re told that ‘she came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.’ We all face problems in life, big and small. Perhaps it’s a problem with our health, relationships, home life, or workplace. But however close we feel to just giving up, and however much we’ve tried to solve things ourselves, we need to take it to Jesus. Just like the woman, we shouldn’t stop until we get to Jesus, even if that means getting down on our knees in prayer and pushing through every obstacle that stands in our way. Let’s reach out in faith and touch Jesus today, and we too can be made whole.

What Now?

Take all your problems to Jesus today. Imagine yourself handing them over one at a time while you’re praying.
