Everlasting love
During the Christmas season, many people put wreaths on their door. The round Christmas wreath speaks of the never-ending unity and fellowship we have with God through Christ. A circle has no end. And that’s exactly what God’s love is like. It has no beginning and no end. God is love itself. The Bible says: ‘God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them’ (1 John 4:16 NIV). This love is everlasting. Christmas is a time when we give gifts to those we love. And God gave the greatest gift of all. He sent His Son to us. The angel told the shepherds: ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord’ (Luke 2:10 NIVUK). He gave us the gift of His Son to save us from our sins, give us eternal life, and so that we would know He completely understands everything we have to go through. The Bible says: ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’ (John 3:16 NIV). He sent us Jesus because of His great love for us. This love doesn’t depend on what we do. There’s nothing we can do to make Him love us more, and nothing we can do to make Him love us less. In Romans, we’re told that nothing ‘shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Romans 8:39 NKJV). This Christmas, let’s remember the amazing, everlasting love God has for each of us.
What Now?
Go for a walk around your neighbourhood. Every time you see a wreath hanging on someone’s door, take a minute to thank God for His everlasting love.
