Jesus’ return
The Message paraphrases Jesus’ return this way: ‘The Master Himself will give the command. Archangel thunder! God’s trumpet blast! He’ll come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise – they’ll go first. Then the rest of us who are still alive at the time will be caught up with them into the clouds to meet the Master…then there will be one huge family reunion…So reassure one another with these words’ (vv.16-18 MSG). Everyone will witness the moment. But not everyone will welcome it. ‘Unready people all over the world…will raise a huge lament as they watch the Son of Man blazing out of heaven’ (Matthew 24:30 MSG).The question is, are we ready for His return? Do we know that we’re going to have eternal life with God? If we’re not sure, let’s not let this day end until we put our trust in Jesus and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour. We don’t go to heaven by chance, we go by choice. And God will honour our choice. Those who acknowledge Jesus as their Saviour will arise to celebrate the greatest family reunion of all time. Do the people we know and love know Jesus? If not, we have a responsibility to tell them. We have the opportunity to show others that they can have eternal life. We can point them to the Saviour. It might seem scary, but we can ask God to help us have the words to say. We might be the only Christian these people come into contact with. Do we want them to join us when we are united with God forever? It’s not just our responsibility, it’s a privilege. We get to partner with God in winning people for Him, we get to help grow the kingdom.
What Now?
Talk with someone who doesn’t yet know Jesus as their saviour. Before you do, ask God to help you have the words to say.
