God’s faithfulness
Sometimes it can feel like God’s stretching our faith to what seems like our breaking point. We can be tested, be in the valley, or just be in a really tough situation with no end in sight, for quite a long time. But a faith that cannot be shaken comes only from a faith that has been so severely shaken that it is now sure, certain, and steadfast. Those times of testing actually strengthen and grow our faith. When we’re facing those ‘breaking point’ times, it can be hard to remember that we’re being strengthened. In fact, it can be tempting to give up, to believe that life will always be this way, and that God isn’t going to step in and help us through it. But when we feel like that we need to remember God’s faithfulness to us in the past. When the psalmist ‘was in distress’, he cried out to God and tried to seek Him (Psalm 77:1-2 NIV). But then he said: ‘I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds’ (vv.11-12 NIV). That’s what we need to do too. We need to remember the things God’s done for us in the past, the times He’s come through for us, and the things He has done for those we know. That helps us to have the faith that He’ll come through for us now. Peter wrote: ‘I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth…It is right to refresh your memory’ (2 Peter 1:12-13 NIV). So we need to be refreshing our memories today.
What Now?
Think about a time when God came through for you. Write about it, or tell someone else. Notice how your faith grows as you remember it.
