Work for good (1)

18 December 2018
‘It is God who works in you…to act according to his good purpose.’

Throughout our spiritual journey, especially in a complicated world, we can often need some encouragement. Here are two simple Bible verses to help us refocus on the good that God brings to the earth. ‘And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose’ (Romans 8:28 NKJV). With God, no experience is ever wasted. When our hearts are in tune with Him, every detail of our lives will fit seamlessly together for His, and our, good. Life may still be difficult at points, but God promises us that it’s all for good. Whether it’s missing out on something that would have been bad for you in the end, or a tough experience that meant that you could help someone with a similar situation later on, God always works everything for good when we love Him. ‘For it is God who works in you to will and to act for His good purpose’ (Philippians 2:13 NIV). God has all of our days in hand, so we can become generous servants to those around us. Look at Joseph in the later chapters of Genesis. He knew from experience that God would work his own circumstances for good as long as he loved Him, so he stopped worrying about himself and turned his focus outward. Because of his trust in God, he played a huge role in feeding so many others during a famine. Because of those words in Romans and Philippians, we can live confidently in the knowledge that God will ensure that everything in our lives works for good, sharing that out open-handedly by doing good for others.

What now?

Have you ever had a difficult experience that has then been worked for good later on? Tell someone about it today. If you don’t have a story like this, ask someone else if they do.
