The great designer

11 December 2018
‘The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.’

When we look closely at the universe, we soon realise that God’s designs are perfect. Let’s take a look at just three of the things He designed: 1) Temperature. The sun’s surface is about 6,000 degrees Celsius, and we’re 93 million miles away from it, which is just the right distance for us to exist. If the earth were closer or further away, it would be too hot or too cold for us to survive. 2) Rotation. The earth rotates as we pass around the sun, creating a 24 hour day. If the rotation was slower, our days would be longer, but it would also mean one side of the earth would get unbearably hot as it spent longer in the sun, and the other side would be freezing cold. Life as we know it would be extremely difficult, or not even exist at all. If the earth rotated more quickly, the centrifugal force would have all kinds of catastrophic effects. 3) Air. 21 per cent of the air we breathe is oxygen, which is just the right amount for us. Any less and we’d all be unconscious; any more and the world would be at risk of catching fire from a tiny spark. None of this happened by accident - the world is God’s design. And none of us are here by accident - we’re here by His design too. Creation reveals His great power, and the cross reveals His great love (take a look at John 3:16). Through Jesus, we can know the great designer personally and receive the gift of eternal life. God doesn’t make mistakes, and He wants every one of us to allow Him into our hearts.

What now?

Take a few minutes to think and pray about the fact that you’re here because God designed you, chose you, and loves you.
