God is kind

28 March 2017

The Bible says: ‘God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms…that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus’ (vv. 6-7 NIV). God sent Jesus from heaven to earth, so that we can leave earth one day and go to heaven. This just shows how kind God is. But we all have times in our lives when we struggle to see God’s kindness. We question His heart for us. The truth that God is kind doesn’t feel very true for us. When things are falling apart or we feel rejected, pushed aside and hurt, it’s easy to start to doubt His goodness. To doubt that He is for us, not against us. But not giving us what we want can also be kind. It may not be the best thing for us or maybe God’s got something so much better in store. It doesn’t feel great at the time. It can make us feel like God is against us and that He doesn’t care. When, in fact, He cares so much that He is saving you for something better. God’s discipline is also kind. When we face His correction and He shows us where we’re going wrong, it can feel really uncomfortable but He does it in kindness, for our own good. Hebrews 12 says ‘God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness’ (v.10 NIV). The truth is that God is kind. Whatever situations we find ourselves in, however we’re feeling, this truth remains.
