In Monday’s reading, we were thinking about the ‘delicately-balanced rules’ of quantum physics. Today, we’re thinking about something that we don’t need a microscope to see: the sun and moon. Just like the tiniest atom, God created rules for them to follow. ‘He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down’ (Psalm 104:19 NIV). And the system He designed works perfectly to keep us safe and comfortable. Genesis 1:14 says they were created as ‘signs to mark sacred times, and days and years’ (NIV), natural clocks and calendars to let us know when it was time to sleep or when it was that time of year to plant crops. Life would be pretty inconvenient without them. Without the moon to control the tides and keep the seas and oceans moving, we’d be surrounded by dirty, smelly water where no life could survive. Most of the oxygen-producing plants and plankton use sunlight for photosynthesis. If the sun stopped obeying God’s rules, they’d struggle to survive. And we’d struggle to breathe. The whole system's designed so we're comfortable and to make life easier for us. God's got it all under control 24 hours a day. He never leaves us alone to fend for ourselves - He's looking after us and keeping us safe every single minute. And He's available to us all day, every day, if we just invite Him into our lives.

What Now?
Before you go to sleep tonight, spend some time looking at the night sky. In that quiet time, thank God for looking after you through every single hour of the day and night.
