Bible Study: Make It Personal

14 August 2016

pHow bothered are you about Bible reading? That measures how much you get back in return. As you press into the Bible, God reveals its truth to you, and then it starts to show up in your life. Jesus puts it like this: ‘for there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.’ (Mark 4:22 NKJV). Then He adds: ‘the measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you - and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.’ (AMP) This isn’t saying that there’s a special level of truth that only special people can access. It’s saying that God watches how bothered you are about getting into His Word, and He rewards it. Half-interested Bible reading will just get half-baked results in your life. Throw yourself into the Bible and it’ll transform you.br /
Do you want to grow spiritually? Build better relationships? Get past worry? Break a bad habit? Get healing from emotional wounds? Then get into the Book, and get it into you. Instead of living off someone else’s spiritual insight, allow the Holy Spirit to transform you through your own Bible study. Jesus said, ‘The Spirit takes my message and tells it to you’ (John 16:15 CEV). That’s why the Bible’s pretty unique, as books go. You can read the same Bible verse a dozen times and get a dozen different insights. And you’ll experience the truth of those words when you personalise the Scripture you’re reading./p
pWhat Now?br /
Every time you read a Bible passage, write down five things (at least) about what you’ve read - thoughts, themes, something it reminds you of. After a few days of this, look back and see if there are any connections or new ideas forming./p
