pRemember Goliath? Yeah, the big guy. The Bible says he was over nine feet tall (1 Samuel 17:4). Yikes. That’s pretty intimidating. Not only was his height a factor, he said some pretty creepy things: ‘“Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!” Goliath yelled’ (1 Samuel 17:44 NLT).Yup. We’d be out of there before he could finish. But David didn’t. David didn’t budge or tremble, and he wasn’t even wearing armour (v. 39). Yes, most of us are more than familiar with this story, but let’s put ourselves in the first-person with David for a second. He stood there with a meagre slingshot and some smooth stones. He was a shepherd and not even a part of the army, and yet, he faced Goliath when no one else would: ‘You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies - the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the LORD will conquer you…’ (1 Samuel 17:45-46 NLT). David was confident in God, to say the least. Notice how he puts it - he said that *God* would conquer Goliath. No matter how big the sword your greatest fear is wielding, there’s a layer of goodness, love, protection, and joy it can’t break through - God Himself. /p

Ask yourself these questions: Have I been a Goliath? What Goliath(s) am I facing? Read 2 Timothy 1:7 again and put it all in God’s hands. Remember you’ve no reason to be afraid./p
