Group Message

24 March 2016

pAlright, so a few days ago (14 March, keenos) we talked about spiritual gifts. We finished by saying that love is the most important foundation brick. And without it we might as well not bother with spiritual gifts at all. Got that? Good. Time to take a head-on look at gifts, then. How do we know what spiritual gifts we have? Well, God didn’t design us to exist alone. So a good way to get clues is by asking God, and asking others.br /
First up, probably obviously: get God’s input. You didn’t create yourself, so you won’t always be able to tell yourself what you were created for. But God can, and He will. ‘If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get His help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought’ (James 1:5-6 MSG). Second up… try this: open a group message on Facebook. Ask some of your most trusted, Christian friends what they think your spiritual gift might be. It’s hard to see our own gifts sometimes because we’re so used to being ourselves that we take the things we do for granted. Other people can help by pointing out what we do that’s specifically ‘us’. And that can be a pointer to the gifts God’s given us that we might have overlooked: hospitality, preaching, healing. If you don’t want to do a group message for reasons of introvert, then shoot out some private messages. You’ll probably find that people are delighted to help. And you’ll discover stuff you never knew./p
pWhat now?br /
Send that message. If you’re still feeling self-conscious about it, you have our permission to say W4U told you to do it./p
