Jesus, The Human
pJesus = fully God, fully human. We reckon that it’s sometimes easier to get our heads around the ‘fully God’ bit than it is the ‘fully human’ bit. Jesus, God, doer of awesomeness, getting hungry, needing a nap, or getting a bruise? Well, yes.br /
Let’s start with Hebrews 2:18. ‘…He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted’ (NKJV). Jesus went through real, human experience, including temptation (which, let’s be clear, isn’t a sin. Being tempted is humanity. Giving in to the temptation, even for a second, is sin, which Jesus didn’t do - that’s the ‘God’ part right there). In fact, Max Lucado puts it pretty well: ‘Jesus was angry enough to purge the temple, distraught enough to weep in public, fun-loving enough to be called a drunkard, winsome enough to attract kids, poor enough to borrow a coin for a sermon illustration, radical enough to get kicked out of town, responsible enough to care for His mother, tempted enough to know the smell of Satan, and anxious enough to sweat blood.’ So… Our God gets it, then. And not just from a distant, seeing-it-all-from-far-away sort of way. He gets it because it happened to Him, which means that He can be properly next to us in our current situations. Whatever life looks like right now, whatever joy, and whatever pain, He’s felt it. That’s our God. Right alongside us, saying, ‘I know, brother. I hear you. I’m with you, sister.’/p

Go back to the list above. Which of those are you feeling? Fun-loving? Anxious? Poor? Find a part of the Gospels that shows that side of Jesus, and pray for God to help you learn something about Him from it./p
