Lean Not

10 February 2016

pHow do we make sure that our faith and relationship with God stay strong as our lives go on? We read our Bibles and pray. Tick. But - how do we make sure, as we read our Bibles and pray, that we’re doing the ‘trusting in the Lord and not leaning our own understanding thing’?br /
Here are some ideas: 1) Go to a good church - Christian friends and mentors (should) love us unconditionally and remind us of God working in our lives, and theirs. Serving others develops our gifts and reminds us of God’s love for them. 2) Chat, always - you don’t have to go full-blown extrovert if that’s not you. We’re just talking about talking. Talk to other people about where you are and talk to God. He’ll be around - He’ll never leave or abandon you (Deuteronomy 31:6) and wants to do amazing things through you. You’d be surprised how much this can help in dry faith patches. Be prepared to listen though: are your plans in line with God’s plans? 3) Don’t live in the past - your past doesn’t have to make you. God uses it in ways you can’t imagine. From GCSE German to the time you really upset that friend/colleague. Failure hurts. But. God wants to show you how to rise from it, and help others do the same. If you give it to God (no matter how much pain it caused), He’ll take it, and turn it for good in ways we couldn’t, without Him. /p
pWhat now?br /
Ready to walk with God for the rest of your life? Tell Him: let Him know your fears and plans and tell Him that you’re ready to follow Him, wherever He takes you. Scary? Yup. Exciting? Yup./p
