God Guidance - Obeying
pWe know that God still speaks to us in a whole bunch of ways: through others, directly, through the Bible (you name it, He can do it). But, especially in our busy world, even when we hear God loud and clear, the next step is where we most often fall down: obedience. Actually doing the thing. As much as it can be hard figuring out what God’s saying to us, it’s even harder to put what He’s telling us into practice. Especially if our focus is being pulled around by the absolute lorry-load of world-stuff that surrounds us. Understandable, but… James 1:22: ‘Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says’ (NIV).br /
Well, then. That’s put straightforwardly enough. A great way to begin to make sure that we’re doing what we think we hear God telling us to, is keep a track of what He tells us in the first place - a prayer journal, or a list of ‘God notes’, something like that. Write down each thing that you reckon God says to you, whether it’s a *specific* message for your life, or a general Bible verse that applies right now. Make time each week to go over it, reminding yourself of anything that He’s asked you to do, then pray for the inspiration/strength/courage/opportunity to do so, with Genesis 28:15 in mind. (Yes. He’s with you wherever, and whenever. You can do the thing, through Him.)/p
pWhat now?br /
Do the thing. Grab a journal/notebook/planner of some sort, then spend some time praying. Write something down, even if it is just that Bible verse that applies to your life. Then, pick a day, and set yourself a reminder to come back to it the same each week. Start to build a habit./p
