Best Laid Plans

06 February 2016

pStuff doesn’t always go the way we planned. We know that, but we keep it under the surface. Disappointments don’t make it to a Pinterest board or a Facebook end-of-year montage. Sometimes, we get our hopes up about exciting new opportunities only to see them fall flat on their face. No matter how hard you try, it can be really hard to shake the feelings of disappointment and anger. It can be tempting to ask ‘How can that just have come to nothing?’ and often you can find yourself looking for someone to blame. If you’re experiencing this sort of thing right now, then this next bit is going to be tough to hear. ‘And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose’ (Romans 8:28 ESV). ‘All things work together for good’: it’s hard to see how that failed project or opportunity fits into Romans 8:28 sometimes. No matter how you feel when that happens, God will have a plan for it. He’ll arrange it so that all your bad things turn out for good, in the totality of your life. Like using that experience you gained further down the line, sometimes even using suffering as a way to minister to those in a similar situation. It’s hard, we know. But God has this. Trust that He won’t let what you’ve experienced go without a positive side./p
pWhat now?br /
Leave the ‘working all things together for good’ to God. The most helpful thing you can do might be to face your disappointments head-on. Hiding won’t help - let yourself call them what they are./p
