There are many times in the Bible that encourage us to gain or use wisdom. One important place to use wisdom and good judgment is when we’re working. We might think that we should be busy at all times, constantly occupied. But that isn’t using good judgment. Here are a few things to bear in mind: 1) Knowing what to say yes to. One of the places we can be tempted to take on too much is in church. We might be asked to help with the coffee, the children’s ministry, the worship, and so on. And we say yes, because it’s helping our church’s ministry. But we can end up getting burned out. So it’s a good idea to ask God which tasks we should really be focusing our energy on. 2) Taking time to stop and recharge our batteries. In Genesis 2:2, God took time to rest. In Luke 5:16, we’re told that ‘Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed’ (NIV). We should be following these examples and making sure we have times to refresh ourselves and be alone with God. 3) Reflecting on what we’ve accomplished. When God finished Creation, He took some time to sit back and appreciate it: ‘God saw all that he had made, and it was very good’ (Genesis 1:31 NIV). When we’ve completed a task, it’s good to look back and think about what we’ve done well, and what we could have done better. It gives us an opportunity to see how much we’ve learned in the process, and to thank God for giving us the strength and resources to complete the task. God thought it was worthwhile to look back on what He’d done, and we should follow His example.
