Bolts of faith

12 October 2022
‘He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”’

There's a theory that the Titanic sank because of cheap rivets and poor planning. The shipbuilders were faced with a shortage of quality bolts, so they used cheaper substandard ones that popped when the ship hit the iceberg. So, how sturdy are the bolts of your faith? Reinforce them daily with God’s Word, seasons of in-depth prayer, and strengthening fellowship.

Describing signs of the end times, Jesus said, ‘All these are the beginning of birth pains’ (Matthew 24:8 NIV). Change from one season to another can be difficult and painful, but Jesus gives us the assurance that this is often part of the process, and things will get better. John said: ‘I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and…the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be…their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”’ (Revelation 21:1-5 NIV).

People everywhere are searching for answers. So, we who know the truth of God’s love need to engage with them, reassure them, and let them know about the hope that Jesus has provided. Our goal should be to take as many people as we can along with us on our walk with God and journey towards heaven.

What Now?

What are the most basic, simple truths that you hold about God – the ones that act as foundations for the rest of your faith? Write them down as a fixed point to return to whenever you feel your faith has been challenged or shaken by a disappointment, circumstances, and so on.
