You belong to God
We all want to belong. We all want to be accepted. We all want to be loved. That’s why rejection and loneliness hurt so much. When we’re searching for human acceptance and belonging, we’re always at risk of being disappointed. But there’s a place where we belong, with acceptance and love that never ends, waiting for us. God says that we belong to Him. When He redeems us, we belong. In Psalm 100, it says ‘we are his’ (v.3 NIV) and in Romans 14 it says ‘we belong to the Lord’ (v.8 NIV). And when we belong to God, we can’t be destroyed. We may have to face some tough situations and keep going through hard times but when we invite God into those situations, He won’t let us be completely destroyed. When the enemy tries to defeat us, he can’t – because we belong to God. He says that we’re His. When the devil wanted to test Job’s faith, God allowed it but there was a condition. Job’s life could not be taken: ‘you must spare his life’ (Job 2:6 NIV). But even death can’t destroy us. We receive eternal life because we belong to Christ: ‘whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’ (John 3:16 NIV). We belong to Him, however we feel. Paul wrote: ‘I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Romans 8:38-39 NIV). It’s the truth – nothing can separate us from Him.
