Discovering God’s will (1)

02 December 2019
‘Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.’

Trying to discover God’s will for our lives can sometimes feel like an impossible task. We can become stressed out, worrying that we’re going to make the wrong decisions. We can repeatedly ask God to show us the way, and not have any clarity. This is one of those ‘big issues’ which Christians have battled with for years. Sometimes God will give us a very detailed, specific plan about what He wants us to do, but often we may only become aware of God guiding us towards (or maybe away from) something, without telling us the finer details or where it’ll lead. So what can we do? We need to remember that when we ‘discover’ something, we’re finding something that already exists even though we were unaware of it. While many of us are seeking God’s will for our lives, often what we’re looking for is right in front of us, but we keep searching because we don’t recognise it. To recognise God’s will we must live by this Bible verse: ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.’ The more we get to know someone, the more we’ll be able to work out the things we do that make them happy, and the things we do that disappoint them. This is the same with God. The closer we get to Him, the more we transform our minds to be in line with His truth. And the more we invest in our relationship with Him, the easier it’ll be for us to know what to do when we face decisions.

What Now?

Start journalling what God’s telling you about His will for your life. Each time you ask Him about His plan for you, make a note of anything He reveals, whether it’s a specific detail or just a sense of the direction He’s guiding you in.
