Enjoy life

09 September 2019
‘This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.’

The way we view life can often determine how we live it. For example, those of us who see life as an adventure can be excited by life, and ready to face challenges. If we see life as something we simply have to get through, we’ll probably find it hard to enjoy it. When was the last time you really felt like we were enjoying life? Is enjoying life reserved for those days where everything is going great and we’re doing something we love? Is it even possible for us to enjoy the days which feel more mundane, or are filled with challenges? The Bible encourages to ‘rejoice and be glad’ in each day. That can be easier said than done on some days. But Jesus said that He came to bring us life to the full (take a look at John 10:10). He didn’t promise that we wouldn’t face troubles, but when we know that we have God on our side, we can face those things with courage. And with His help we can still see His goodness to us in every day. When we become discouraged, it’s really hard to enjoy life. We struggle to see the good in anything. The Bible says: ‘A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength’ (Proverbs 17:22 NLT). When we ask God to help us have a positive outlook on life, it can help us keep going. The more negative we become, the harder it is to have the strength to face each day. But God has come for us to life a full life; while it won’t always be fun, we can always enjoy being in His presence and knowing we’re working for His kingdom and glory.

What Now?

Each night write down five things you’re grateful for from that day. Even on the tough days, notice how there are always good things too.
