Protected

‘They are protected from the Destroyer.’

Jesus said, ‘[You] are protected from the Destroyer…No one can steal [you]…out of my hand.’ It’s not that the enemy won’t try. He’ll try to make us think we’re so far from God that there’s no way home. He’ll send others to attack us with discouragement and guilt. He’ll tempt us to walk away from God. We can end up making choices that leave us in bad places spiritually and emotionally. But when we belong to God, no circumstances can take us away from His love. The Bible says: ‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Romans 8:38-39 NIV). Knowing God’s our protector can give us peace, no matter what’s going on in our lives. Being close to God doesn’t mean that nothing bad will ever happen to us. Psalm 91 talks a lot about being protected by God. We’re told we can rest in His shadow, that He’s our fortress and refuge, and that He’ll cover us with His wings (take a look at verses 1-4). But in verses 5 and 6 some of the things we might have to face are mentioned. These verses tell us that, with God as our protector, we won’t need to fear these things when they happen. Whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, we can live confidently knowing that God’s by our side. After all, ‘the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy’ but Jesus came so that we ‘may have life, and have it to the full’ (John 10:10 NIV).
