Be ready
Jesus is coming again. We don’t know when, but we do know it will happen. We’re told that ‘no one knows when that day or time will be, not the angels in heaven, not even the Son’ (v.36 NCV). Only God knows when that time will be. And when He comes again, we will all face judgement. Are we ready for that? When we look at our lives right now, what would Jesus say if He came back? Would He approve of what we’re doing, or would He be disappointed with the things we’re choosing to do, or not to do. The Bible warns us to ‘always be ready, because you don’t know the day your Lord will come.’ Always being ready seems like a massive challenge, but a great way to think about it is by imagining throughout the day that Jesus was about to turn up at our door – would we be comfortable to welcome Him in and show Him what we’re doing? Would we want Him to experience how we’re living? If our answer is ‘no’, then we know we’re not ready for His return. In Hebrews 9 it says: ‘So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him’ (v.28 ESV). Are we ‘eagerly waiting for him’? Or are we too busy and focused on other things? Have our problems stopped us from thinking about our eternity? Today, let’s commit ourselves to being ready for Jesus’ return. Let’s eagerly await His return.
What Now?
At various points throughout the day, stop and ask yourself ‘would Jesus approve of how I’m living right now’? If the answer is no, try and make a change to what you’re doing.
