You + God

05 March 2019
‘We are God’s workers, working together.’

Sometimes we can wonder why we’re here. We wonder what our purpose is in life, and whether we can really make a difference in the world. But God says: ‘We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do’ (Ephesians 2:10 NIV). Before we were born, God already had ‘good works’ planned for us to do, and He created us with gifts and skills to help us do them. We can’t do these works in our own strength. We need to work with God to do them. His strength, wisdom, and vision are so much greater than ours. Paul writes, ‘We are God’s workers, working together.’ We belong to God, and we’re called to work alongside Him to help bring His kingdom to earth. We can often forget that and get caught up with other people’s opinions and demands. But the Bible reminds us that we’re ultimately working for Him (take a look at Colossians 3:23). God chooses to use people like us to fulfil His plans. He has the power to do everything Himself, but He allows us to play our part and be involved. We may not understand His whole plan, but we can still make a difference. Sometimes working with God may mean we travel to other places, other times we’re called to work for Him right where we are. The Bible says, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths’ (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV). God has called each of us to work alongside Him, and even if it seems overwhelming, He’ll lead and guide us – we just need to make the choice to trust Him.
