Set your mind (1)
To become the person God wants us to be, we must set our mind on the right things. That can seem easier said than done, particularly when our circumstances are tough and we struggle to think about anything other than what’s happening in our lives. We might feel like we’re powerless to change anything in our lives, but we’re not. While circumstances can have a huge impact on our lives, and make us feel certain emotions, it’s often the way that we think about the circumstances that determines how well we cope. We might not be able to change what’s happening, but we can change how we’re thinking about it. The way we think inevitably reflects the way we live. So, to become the best version of ourselves, the person God wants us to be, we need to think thoughts that line up with God’s truth. When we’re struggling to determine whether our thoughts are truth or not, and when we’re struggling to just keep our heads above water, we can rest in the knowledge that God can transform us. We don’t have to do it all on our own. The Bible says: ‘let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think’ (Romans 12:2 NLT). God’s Word can help us to think with faith instead of fear, assurance instead of anxiety, and joy instead of negativity. Paul says: ‘Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things’ (Philippians 4:8 NIV). When our minds are ‘set on what the Spirit desires’, our lives will begin to change for the better.

Write down all the thoughts you’ve been having about any situations you’re facing right now. Then take the time to read the Bible to fill your mind with God’s Word instead.
