Seeking God

27 December 2018
‘As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.’

What are you searching for in life?’ A good job? A relationship? Family? Financial success? Or is it God? In everything we do, we should be seeking God. His plans for us are better than anything we can plan ourselves. God says: ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts’ (Isaiah 55:9 NIV). Whatever we’re trying to achieve, we first need to make sure that our plan matches up with His. We need to seek His wisdom and advice on what we’re planning on doing. But beyond that, we need to be seeking God on a daily basis just to build our relationship with Him, to become more like Him, and to get better at listening and understanding His thoughts towards us. In 1 Chronicles 16, it says: ‘Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!’ (ESV). This verse tells us that we should not just be seeking God when we need something, but continually. Then in Jeremiah 29 it says: ‘You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart (v.13 ESV). Here we see that we need to be completely focused on seeking God in order to find Him. We have to be wholehearted in our seeking. Sometimes it can feel like God’s a million miles away. He hasn’t left us; instead, our hearts have been preoccupied with other things. But if we seek Him with all our heart, He says that we will find Him. David said: ‘With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments’ (Psalm 119:10 ESV). Are you ready to say the same?
