‘He gives power to the weak.’

When we try and do everything in our own strength, we can become burnt out. Sometimes we try and do everything on our own because it doesn’t feel like God’s working, or maybe because we’re trying to prove ourselves and gain His acceptance, or maybe we just think we know how to solve everything. But the truth is, we need God. We need His strength and we need His help. God knows we’ll get tired, He says: ‘Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall’ (Isaiah 40:30 NIV). But He has the answer. ‘He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak…those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint’ (Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV). When we’re feeling discouraged, tired and hopeless we can find strength in God. He’s always ready to refresh us. To breathe new life into us again. God says: ‘I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint’ (Jeremiah 31:25 NIV). He reminds us that He is all-powerful and can sustain us, so we don’t keep trying to do everything in our own strength. He reminds us that He loves us and wants the best for us, so we don’t have to keep trying to strive and impress Him. He reminds us that He knows more about us, and our situations, than we do. He even knows how many hairs are on our heads (have a read of Luke 12:7). This reminds us that we need His wisdom, we can’t do it on our own. So today, let’s surrender to the One who sustains us through all of the ups and downs of life.

What Now?

If you’re feeling discouraged, tired or hopeless today, set aside some time to just lie in God’s presence and let Him restore you.
