You’re invited (2)
Nobody adopts a child by accident. Think about this: knowing in advance about all your weaknesses, God chose you anyway. ‘You are now fully adopted as his own…an heir, with complete access’ (vv. 5-7 MSG). You never have to wonder whether it’s okay to approach your heavenly Father, because He’s always ready to welcome you. Your seat’s reserved at the table. ‘You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies’ (Psalm 23:5 NIV). That means obstacles and opposition can’t rob you of God’s blessing. In fact, they’re probably a sign that there’s a table somewhere in the middle of that crowd of enemies. It’s all better than you think it is. Being ‘chosen and appointed’ is like flying first class: you get the best service, the most comfortable seats, and all the best food and drink first. You’re a priority. You get everything. You’re in. But that doesn’t give you license to live however you want: ‘the Lord disciplines those he loves, and…accepts as a son’ (Hebrews 12:6 NIV). God’s correction isn’t rejection, it’s proof He loves you as a son. You’re not chosen because of your strengths, best features, talents, looks, intelligence, or whatever. God chose you because He wanted to. He wanted you. He loves you and has a special plan for your life. And the best part is, He’s going to give you all the resources you need to get it done. ‘He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion’ (Philippians 1:6 NIV).
What now?
God is serious about blessing you. He won’t let obstacles stand in the way long. But are we going to co-operate? Is there any way you’re blocking God’s correction in your life (and missing out on a blessing as you do?)
