On The Edge
In Galatians, Paul said we should actually get up the guts to share our burdens with one another. That’s not the easiest thing, when a whole bunch of us go around carrying the weight of our troubles on our own, because we think we can handle them. Truth is, though, if we go on carrying the weight of our mistakes, disappointments, and hardships by ourselves, we’ll be pretty likely to give up. Imagine what it would look like if, every morning, you *physically* carried everything you’re worried about or dealing with. Let’s say that for every situation or worry you pick up in life, it’s like another glass being balanced on your tea tray. Some severe situations are like full pint glasses being dumped right on the edge, and it gets increasingly difficult to balance. Now, what if someone offered to take a few glasses from your cluttered tray? Things would be much more manageable.
That’s what happens when we share each other’s burdens. When we talk situations through with someone we can trust, we’ll feel at least a little bit of the balance brought back to our lives. But that can change the course of an entire day, a slight bit of pressure lifted off us can keep us pushing forward, better than if we moseyed along on our own.
What now?
Grab a tray, and go outside with lots of (plastic) cups. Fill them with water and see how many you can carry.
