That Tithing Thing (4)

25 October 2015

Okay, so tithing is about more than maths. Giving has to have a heart, it’s all done in response to us knowing God, and recognising that there are needs all around us. From some, God *will* ask for 10%. From some, 30%. Sometimes, He’ll even ask for 100%. The important thing is that we get close enough to Him to hear what He wants of us. That’s what it boils down to.
Psalm 34:8-10 reminds us of what God’s world could, and honestly should, look like. *That* is what He wants. He wants a world where we hold onto the stuff that we accumulate so lightly, that we can share it out where there’s need, at a moment’s notice. If we lived in a community where each of us did that whole Acts 2:45 thing, then… flip. Imagine it. Everyone would be covered. The man without a home would become our brother, and we’d help him not go hungry or cold, for more than just the standard five minutes that ‘I got you a brew in a paper cup’ lasts. The single mum struggling to pay the bills would become our sister, and that community would see that she can pay to keep the lights on, to read bedtime stories to the kids. Excuse us while we get all fist-pumpingly pro-active. But really. God will help you use what He’s given to you, and starting even the whispers of a community like the early Christians in Acts had could change this world completely.

What Now?
Grab friends. Plan something big. That’s all the direction we’re giving to you. With some prayer and throwing-around-of-ideas, you’ll find where God wants you guys. Ready? Go!
