Muddy Miracles
Naaman was pretty capable and composed. But then he got sick, and he didn’t feel either of those things any more. And he got told that the way he’d get healed was to jump in a filthy, muddy river, which put him in enough of a huff for him to storm away. You see, no matter how desperate he was for healing, Naaman was too proud to do something that he felt was, well, frankly… beneath him. He could see the easy way (having someone lay their hands on him, and pray), and didn’t understand why his healing was offered through a muckier, more difficult route.
But. Sometimes God does what He does, in exactly the way that He does, on purpose. Actually, scratch that. Always. God *always* does what He does for a reason. Ecclesiastes 3:1, right? God is in control. He’s got a solid game plan. Even when the plan doesn’t look like you expect it to, it’s solid. Going back to 2 Kings 5, when Naaman wrestled his ego into control, and did what God instructed, he got to progress that he was promised – he was healed. That’s often a lesson we could all do with learning. D’you ever find yourself getting a little fighty when progress doesn’t go the way you’d planned? Especially when it means *you* have to make more of an effort? Yeah. We get it. But we reckon that, even then, God’s still in control. So we should do our best to act with grace and obedience, whatever happens along the way.
What Now?
Go for a walk, with the aim of getting your shoes muddy. Pray while you walk, and ask God to build that grace and obedience in you.
