Alison's Promise

A few months ago, Alison shared a touching story about her father’s unwavering faith and how his lifetime partnership with UCB left a lasting legacy of faith and a deeper connection with God. Alison’s journey back to her faith was inspired by her father’s devotion and a UCB podcast. Alison explained,

"Dad is the root of all this. He passed away at 80 just about 18 months ago. He was a long-time supporter of UCB and spent his last 6 months in a care home. I think he knew his time was coming and was concerned for me. I hadn’t been going to church for 30 years, even though I became a Christian in my teens. Life and work took over, and while I retained my faith, I hadn’t been a regular churchgoer."

Her father's prayers and belief in her never wavered, even when it seemed hopeless. This story serves as a powerful reminder to never give up on praying for our loved ones, no matter how far they may seem from God.

"I made a promise to my dad before he died that I would try going back to church. So, that’s what I did," Alison continued. Through UCB’s accessible resources, she found a way to keep her promise and reconnect with God.

"In February, I started going for walks and thought, ‘What else can I do while I’m out?’ I discovered UCB’s podcast, Bible Books In 30 Minutes. It was perfect – a short podcast that delved into each book of the Bible. It made the stories from church come alive and brought God closer to me every day, not just on Sundays."

Though it was too late for Alison to share these podcasts with her father, she realised that his support of UCB had paid forward a precious gift that helped her rediscover her faith.

"When Dad donated to UCB, some of his money went toward these wonderful podcasts that I’m now listening to – and probably will for the rest of my life. It’s a great legacy. Thanks, Dad! I hope we can talk about them when we meet again in heaven."
