TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
DEEPER HAPPINESSPhilippians 4:8
Life leaves bitter and sweet tastes in the mouth. It’s easy to find yourself on the lawn of negativity, drinking from a glass half empty on grass that definitely isn’t as green as your neighbours’. Then, in the space of a day or so, everything can seem like sunshine and lollipops again.
Your feelings may well be in constant flux, but God wants to give us a steady, deeper joy, that’s not based on surface level happiness or sadness. Thinking negatively about ourselves or our situation doesn’t improve things, even if we think that we’re just being ‘realistic’. It’s not delusional to focus on being positive. Words have power in our lives and so does our thought life. Don’t feed your heart with the wrong stuff.
Do you imagine God looking down on us negatively? Rick Warren wrote this, ‘God is love. He didn’t need us. But he wanted us. And that is the most amazing thing.’ God has bound Himself to you – that’s not something that changes from day to day, even if we feel far from Him. Whatever negative spin you can put on your lot in life, God says He intends ‘to prosper you and not to harm you... to give you hope and a future.’ (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV) Live in this deeper joy.
We’ve suggested it before, but think it’s a worthwhile thing to do - take some time to write down your favourite scriptures on how God sees you and His plans for you. Put them up on your wall, or a place where you’re likely to return to in your own time.
