TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
YOU’RE AN EXAMPLE OF CHRIST: REPRESENT (2)1 Timothy 4:12
It’s all fine and dandy to be told to ‘be an example’. But how, and where? Let’s break it down over the next few days and look at a few different areas. We’ll start with our speech.
Your words give voice to what’s going on in your heart (see Matthew 12:34). And once the words are out of the can, there’s no taking them back – spoken words are out there like a stubborn stain on our clothes and ‘sorry’ doesn’t always work like Vanish. You may need to rebuild and repair the trust in your relationship. That can take time.
The Bible says ‘May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord’ (Psalm 19:14 NLT). This means that once there’s a clear path from your transformed heart to your mouth, God’s likely to be fairly happy. So chew on your words and figure out the taste of them before you let them out your mouth. Think them over. Christ’s words brought life. Are yours going to drop bombs or raise a white flag? Will they swing towards war, or peace?
Perhaps there’s someone in your life that you need to ‘tame your tongue’ around, or speak better words to. Study some Proverbs about the power of words (try 21:23, 25:23, 29:20 – there are bucketloads on this particular issue.) Take one proverb away with you today and mull it over!
