God’s greatness (5)

‘The earth will wear out like a piece of clothing.’ Isaiah 51:6 NLT

Let’s have a read of Isaiah 51:6: ‘Look up to the skies above, and gaze down on the earth below. For the skies will disappear like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing. The people of the earth will die like flies, but my salvation lasts forever. My righteous rule will never end!’ (NLT). Take a look at everything around you. The things that look solid and tangible now are the things that’ll one day fade away. But God’s gift of salvation can never be taken away from us, if we accept that gift. Even if we've done things we're ashamed of, or rejected God in the past, He doesn't take that offer of salvation away. It's waiting for us, and God’s longing for every one of us to accept it and live a life that puts Him at the centre. And when we do that, God promises that even though we’ll have to suffer death one day, we’ll be reunited with Him for eternity. His love for us won’t fade, and won’t change. The psalmist wrote: ‘In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment…But you remain the same, and your years will never end’ (Psalm 102:25-27 NIV). When we put our hope and trust in material things, we're going to be disappointed. Instead let's pour all our hope and trust into God, who never changes and will never let us down.

What now?
Take a couple of minutes to look at the world around you. As you’re doing that, thank God that He’s unchangeable and ask Him to help you put all your trust in Him rather than earthly things.
