TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
LOST PROPERTY (3)Luke 15:24
‘…[My] son…was lost, and is found’ Luke 15:24 NIV
Last, but not least, it’s the parable of the lost son. What’s different about this story from the others is that this son knew he was lost – he knew his way home. No one came looking for him like the Shepherd seeking the sheep, or the woman seeking her coin.
In this story, after throwing all his inheritance away, living recklessly on everything the world could offer, the son finds himself with pigs, jealous of their food. But in the pigswill he finally comes to his senses: ‘I will…go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned’’…But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him…the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was…lost and is found…’’ (vv.17-24 NIV).
The son didn’t feel worthy of his father’s love, but all the father cared about was that his lost child had come home. And no sin exists that is greater than the love God the Father has for you. He’ll act in just the same way as the father in this story. He will never give you the cold shoulder if you choose to run back to him. He will always, always, welcome you home.
Are you feeling like you’ve lost your way or that sinful habits have crept back in? You need to get back on the rails, but that means going to God in prayer. There’s no reason to be scared or worried though. There’s welcoming, fresh grace for you today.
