TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
It’s not the virgin birth, the miracles, the beatitudes, the resurrection – want to know what Jesus is best remembered for? His wheels. His Italian mid-engine sports mobile with modified arch trimming. And His house, that four bedroom retreat in the country, bankrolled by His city salary. What that man didn’t know about buying small and selling large wasn’t worth knowing! Yeah, He’d trampled on a few fingers in order to get to the top but all in the name of success. And then He retired at the age of sixty, slouching around a golf course in Marbella. Jesus had made His life count.
Okay, there’s fine line between satire and the sacrilegious here. The point is, Jesus did role-model success, but not in a way that looked anything like the above description. He gave up everything to love his neighbour and served everyone. This is not easy, but it is the way of the cross that we are called to. So why are so many Christians still hungry to be a success in the world’s eyes? Jesus said, ‘If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?’ (Matthew 16:25,26 NLT). Live a life worth remembering, worth giving up everything for: live in Jesus’ Way, and live for others.
Draw out a contract stating, ‘My life is the property of Jesus. From this day forward, Lord, do with it what you will, whether it pleases me, or doesn’t please me.’ But carefully consider, ‘Can I honestly sign my name to this?’
