TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
LITTLE VOICE1 Kings 19:4
Elijah reached the summit of the mountain. He steadied his feet on a rock and turned his eyes down to the ground, hundreds of feet below. ‘One step. That’s all it would take’, he thought. ‘One step and it will be all over. No more weight of expectation from my people. No more signs and miracles. No more death threats. One step...’ But ending his own life was not an option. He pulled away from the edge and slumped against the bark of a lean tree. ‘Enough. Take me now, Lord. Take my life. Now...’
Elijah’s focus had shifted from God onto his circumstances. The moment we start to crowd our head with stuff we have to do or dwell on problems without answers, we too can become overwhelmed like Elijah. Now, God didn’t reach a hand through the clouds and instantly smite Elijah’s enemy Jezebel, and neither did He zap Elijah straight to heaven. Not yet, anyway. Instead God spoke to His prophet in a ‘still small voice’ (v. 12 NKJ).
You may want God to give you the winning lottery numbers, or smite your own Jezebel, but He knows better. Money, circumstances, and people are not the answer. What you really need is to meet with that still small voice. Let God whisper to your soul.
Even those with great faith are not always strong. Every Christian, no matter what emotional state they are in, must continually come back to this place of quiet listening to God. At some point today, take five minutes out of whatever you are doing to find a spot where you can be quiet – take a cup of something warm and sit, and just be, with Him.
