UCB Aid

spacer'I want you to share your food with the hungry and to welcome poor wanderers into your homes...do not hide from relatives who need your help'. Isaiah 58:7 NIV

UCB Aid launched in March 2006 as a ministry that would undertake the mission work of UCB's objectives; evangelism, discipleship and missions. We aim to change peoples lives for good, by demonstrating the love of Jesus; this is done through offering practical help and support to organisations working in the poorest parts of the world.

The Desmond Tutu Community Build - No More Shacks!

spacerJoin us and help build a better future for South Africans living in urban poverty. The challenge is to build 15 houses in just one week!

Saturday 6th to Sunday 14th September 2008, Cape Town, South Africa.
spacerThis project will see 12 South African families lifted out of poverty housing through the hard work and encouragement of people like you. Urban townships in Cape Town are places of acute need. Shacks are patchwork structures of card, chipboard, plastic and rusty metal. They are damp, dangerous and degrading and wholly unnecessary. Volunteers will spend one week serving the families by building complete houses; from the foundation slab right up to finishing the roof!
spacerThis is not a tourist experience: volunteers will build hand-in-hand with the families in need, the 'home partners', and in doing so they will give and receive a ministry of unity that crosses culture and nationality. Through service they will get right into the heart of the South African people.

"Starting with a concrete slab, we built a three room house with roof, windows and door. We built lasting friendships and a far deeper understanding of our different cultures," said UCB volunteer Graham Thompson, "It was life changing and a real privilege. I'll be back." Through hard work, fellowship and laughter you will make a difference. On her return last year, Sarah Finney said, "Looking back, I don't think of a house; I think of people and laughter."

If you're between the ages of 18 and 75 and you want to serve South African families in need, join us in Cape Town in September 2008. No experience or building skills are necessary, but a heart for change is.

Hebrews says, 'For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.' Our volunteers are the hands and feet of Christ and they see the world as it really is. They come home knowing they've made a difference.
