You don't have to be old to be wise
'... I will give you words and wisdom ...' Luke 21:15
When you become a Christian, you don't suddenly know how to live properly, what to say in every situation, and wise words for those tough times. A shiny white angel won't suddenly appear with a magic wand, say 'ping!' and suddenly you're some great wise guru who gets everything right, and always knows what to say. But we do find out that, 'If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all...' (James 1:5 NIV). I'd say it's a pretty fair bet that most of us do lack wisdom - but there's a simple solution to that problem - ask God for some. There's nothing wrong with admitting that you don't always know what to do - after all, there are so many different opinions surrounding us about pretty much anything. It's easy to turn into a stress-head, panicking because a magazine says one thing, a friend says another, your fave TV programme says something completely different; your vicar says one thing, and you youth leader says something else - so many opinions all around, they can't all be right can they? That's where wisdom comes in. Ask God for the wisdom to work out right from wrong, and look to the life of Jesus as a perfect example of words being spoken with complete wisdom. Think about what you're saying today, and make sure your words are spoken with wisdom too.
