27 Feb 2009 Night vision (1)
'Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.' Isaiah 50:NIV

Yes, God promises us peace, but we also know that bad things can happen to good people. Isaiah makes it clear that there will be times when darkness will even surround people who love God. Check your Bible, there's plenty of examples. What about Job who was well blessed before suddenly losing everything? He cried out, 'He has blocked my way...he has shrouded my paths in darkness' (Job 19:8 NIV). c) John the Baptist was puzzled about why his cousin Jesus, who could raise the dead, had left him to languish in prison. So he sent him a message asking, 'Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?' (Luke 7:19 NIV). d But is darkness our enemy? Maybe not. Think about this: Faith is like film - you remember that stuff - the stuff you used to put into cameras before everything went digital! Well the thing about film is that has to be 'developed' in the dark - the tiniest bit of light will ruin the photograph. Our dark days make us lean on God in ways we normally wouldn't. The truth is, if our faith was never tested we wouldn't be motivated to draw closer to God. The hymn writerIt's like the old song: 'When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace. When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.' Anyone can praise God when life is good. It's when darkness falls that we find out what our faith is made of. It's in those times that we start to develop night vision!
