TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
THE WAITING GAME (2)Hebrews 10:35
Maybe you’re not worrying about incoming offspring yet, but picture yourself ‘big with pig’ for a moment (guys will have to think creatively on this one.) You want to keep that little bundle of joy wrapped up tight in your tummy for as long as possible. The earlier the arrival, the more complications are possible. Waiting full term is the ideal for a pregnant mother – could it be the same with God’s promises for you?
If God gave you everything He’d promised you now, would you be ready? Chances are there’d be premature complications. It could cause you more heartbreak than waiting for it to go full term. Paul paints the same picture, only better: ‘Waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don’t see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy’ (Rom. 8:24–25 TM).
Waiting is part of life. Again, the Bible puts it best: ‘You see farmers do this all the time, waiting for their valuable crops to mature, patiently letting the rain do it’s slow but sure work. Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong’ (James 5:7–8 TM).
Think back to the personal promises that God has given to you: Bible verses, pictures, words of encouragement... Spend today remembering them, and take time throughout your day to give Him thanks that His timing is right. (If you’ve not had any specific promises from God – ask Him what He wants to say to you today!)
