TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY

PHILIP’S PRIORITIES (1)

Acts 6:5

Philip was onto a cosy little number. Pencil-pushing his day away at the office. Quiet times to himself. Just a Bible and commentary to idle away the hours in the central-heated parts of the church. A nice blast of ‘Praise Him on the Panpipes’ seeping through the speakers. If only he could still that niggling feeling in his bones. That terrible itch in his spirit to get up, go out and get in the fray.

On the one hand was the safety of the church walls where everything was reverent; on the other hand was an irritating idea to head for the desert. That dry, barren place, where the dizzying sun showed no mercy, where wild animals roamed, where the devil seemed to prowl. Philip leaves his comfort zone and makes serious history. For in the desert he meets the Eunuch who was secretary to the Queen of Ethiopia. A chance encounter leads the stranger to Christ and a nation to salvation. And all because Philip was prepared to leave security behind and venture to the unknown, step by step with a dangerous God. ‘If you find life difficult because you are doing what God said, take it in stride. Trust Him. He knows what He is doing, and He’ll keep on doing it’ (1 Pet. 4:19 TM).

What now?

In what ways is God disturbing your comfort? What steps do you need to take? Pray for enough courage for each footstep taken.
