TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
A JOB LOTJob 1:10
Job was at his wit’s end. His body sore with scabs and broken flesh where disease had eaten away at him, exhausted from the throbbing of his temples where dark thoughts raced around his skull. Grief weighed down like a stone on his chest. Red eyes raw from salt-stained tears. His marriage in tatters, his home written off as an ‘act of God’ by the insurers. The empty cry hollow inside his lungs for the death of his children. God lay like a cold idea across the mortuary of his theology. Just when it seems that existential death is the answer, God steps into the picture. God, armed with healing and restoration. The breath of resurrection blows into the room.
And the same promise is for you when your own world crumbles around you. When your mind, your health, your relationships are attacked, the pain is raw and real. But it’s only for a time. God won’t allow a second more pain than you can possibly endure. Just when you think it’s over, the breath of resurrection will blow into your room. Healing and restoration step into your story. ‘God heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds’ (Ps. 147:3 TM).
‘Trials can make us bitter or better’ – this cliché proved very true for Job, who surely faced one of the most difficult personal trials of all time. If you’re in the middle of trials or pain today, what can you do to invite God into them?
