TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY

EVE OF DESTRUCTION

James 1:12

Ripe to be picked. Shiny like the secrets of the universe itself. The unpeeled glowing little orb swung delicately from its branches in the cool breeze of daylight. And you know what? I wanted it. I needed to know what all the fuss was about. I craved the forbidden.

Sure, I tried to forget about it and think about other things. ‘Keep your mind on what God said’, I’d say to myself. Rules are rules – they’re for a reason. But each night as my head touched the pillow my mind would wander from counting sheep to counting the odd, stray fruit. Oh to feel it’s flesh.

So that’s when I did it. One morning, while Adam was off naming a new bird or something, I was helping the forbidden out of its sweet skin. But as I sunk my teeth into the first bites of sin, temptation didn’t seem quite as exciting anymore. It felt like it wasn’t just me and the fruit anymore – it felt like the whole world was watching; the trees seemed to point disapproving branches at me, the clouds blushed, the sky cried and Eden seemed less ... less ... innocent.

What now?

What tempts you the most? Admit your struggles to God and pray for help to stand strong. Memorise a verse which speak against your particular temptation. (You could search biblegateway.com for suitable passages.)
