TODAY'S WORD 4U 2DAY
‘Hezekiah … spread it out before God…’2 Kings 19:14 TM
THE HEZEKIAH APPROACH
The sound of screeching tyres, a court date, a lump - bad news comes in all shapes and disguises. For Hezekiah it came in the form of a letter. Devastating news that left him in a hopeless situation. Bad news is no respecter of age, class or gender and can hit us at any time. So what should we do when it reaches us? How do we problem solve? We could do worse than to adopt the Hezekiah approach.
Hezekiah’s bad news: 185,000 Assyrians were marching his way to wipe him and his city out! Straight away, ‘Hezekiah took the letter … and spread it out before God. And Hezekiah prayed … You are the one and only God … Open your ears, God, and listen, open your eyes and look ... O God, our God, save us.’ And God answered him,‘ You've prayed to me… I've heard your prayer… I'll save this city’ (vv.14–34). God kept His promise: ‘And it so happened that that very night an angel of God came and massacred 185,000 Assyrians. When the people of Jerusalem got up next morning, there it was— a whole camp of corpses!’ (v. 35).
Hezekiah was a man of faith (Chapter 18:5) and prayer. His first reaction when confronted with bad news was to bring it before God. Whether the problem was 185,000 unwanted Assyrians or a painful illness (Chapter 20:1,7) Hezekiah took it to the Lord in prayer. And when he prayed, things happened.
Deal with your problems or your bad news the Hezekiah way: take them to God today!
